Celebration of Racing & Automotive Legends

Join us once again as the Crown Hill Foundation celebrates the Racing & Automotive Legends at Crown Hill with IRMA (Indiana Racing Memorial Association)! New this year will be the release of our interactive RACING LEGENDS TOUR APP! A highlight of the tour app are twenty audio recordings made by IMS Historian Donald Davidson and former IMS Announcer – the “Voice of the 500,” –  the late Bob Jenkins.

J. Douglas Boles, IMS President, laying the brick for Speedway Co-founder Arthur C. Newby into the Final Finish Line

A special speaker will be J. Douglas Boles, President of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Mr. Boles also joined us in 2018 and helped install the Speedway’s co-founder bricks into the Final Finish Line yard of bricks. After earning his law school degree in 2000, Boles joined IMS as vice president of communications in 2010. He added the title of chief operating officer in 2013 before becoming president a few months later.

We also welcome Jake Query, a veteran of Indianapolis sports radio, as our keynote speaker. Query is part of The Fan morning radio show and is co-host with Kevin Bowen on their show, “Kevin & Query,” which airs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on WFNI, 93.5 and 107.5-FM. He began his radio career with IndyCar in 2007 and has called 220 races and over 15 Indy 500s. In addition to his daily show, Query continues in his role as a turn announcer for IndyCar and also has a weekly show with Derek Schultz on ISC Sports Network.

This event will include individual metal TOUR MEDALLIONS installed & the introduction of our mobile-friendly RACING LEGENDS TOUR APP! This fascinating self-guided RACING LEGENDS TOUR APP takes visitors to the resting places of racing legends from the Racing Capital of the World by using GPS coordinates on their cell phone. From there one can read the bio of the person buried there and listen to the audio recordings! Custom-made metal TOUR MEDALLIONS will have been installed at the graves of the four Speedway founders, Carl G. Fisher, James A. Allison, Frank W. Wheeler, Arthur Newby, and dozens of others!

Following the installation of the interactive RACING LEGENDS TOUR APP, a guided tour of five Racing Legends grave sites will be conducted using the APP by Crown Hill Tour Guide Tom Davis.

Racing Legends Tour Medallion

These TOUR MEDALLIONS and the interactive RACING LEGENDS TOUR APP are a continuation of projects planned with IRMA. In 2017, the Crown Hill Foundation partnered with IRMA to install the “Racing Legacy” historical sign on Section 13, down the hill from Speedway founder Carl G. Fisher’s private family mausoleum, and in 2018 they installed the “Final Finish Line,” a row of bricks a yard wide across the road with special bricks engraved with the names of the four IMS founders.

Carl G. Fisher’s 1905 Premier Racer, designed by George Weidley and built by the Premier Automobile Co, of Indianapolis will be on display, compliments of the IMS Museum

SPECIAL CARS ON DISPLAY! There will be three special racers on display at the event, including IMS Co-Founder CARL G. FISHER’S 1905 Premier Racer, compliments of the IMS Museum! Jason VanSickle from the IMS Museum features this special car here. The second car on display is an award-winning replica of Parnelli Jones 1963 Indianapolis 500-winning car, and the third is an original 1930s-era Miller track racer.

Final Finish Line

This event will be held at the “Final Finish Line,” on the east side of Sec. 13 (follow the white line painted on the road from either gate) to the coned-off area. No registration is necessary, and parking is plentiful. Chairs will be provided or bring your own. Refreshments served.
